I do not want to be a slave, and I cannot imagine ever choosing to be a slave, but I do not want the government to take away my right to choose to be a slave. What gives the government (or other people) the right to tell me I cannot choose to be a slave? If the government can take away my right to choose to be a slave, then the government can take away my other rights also. I demand the right to choose to be a slave, even though I have no intention of ever using that right, because I am trying to protect my other rights. A government which respects my right to choose to be a slave will respect my other rights.

A government which allows us to choose to be slaves recognizes that we own ourselves, and therefore have the right to sell ourselves or give ourselves away, and the right to choose not to sell ourselves and not to give ourselves away. A government which does not allow us to choose to be slaves is saying we do not own ourselves, but are owned by the government. If the government does not allow us to choose to be slaves, then we are all slaves of the government.

If people have the right to choose to be slaves, then people must also have the right to choose to live in a society which does not allow people to criticize the government, and the right to choose to live in a society which requires all citizens to be members of the same religion, and the right to choose to live in a dictatorship.
